In a stunning announcement today, Premier Kathleen Wynne promised that if elected, she would offer free child-care to every child in Ontario, from the age of 2 1/2 to their first year in Kindergarten.
That could save many parents up to 17 thousand dollars a year, per child. It would be very costly to the taxpayer, at a time when the provincial deficit and debt are running wild. The cost: 2.2 Billion dollars.
No immediate reaction from the Opposition parties, but no doubt this will become a central theme in the June 7th election campaign.
