Many in Midland, called it the biggest decision in the town’s history.
To stay with the long-standing, municipal town police force, or disband that and switch to the OPP.
Last night, at a packed special meeting at the North Simcoe Rec. Centre, council decided in a 6-3 vote, to transition to the OPP.
Mayor Gord McKay was one of those in favour of the change, and says while the issue has created some divisions in town, he doesn’t expect those divisions to linger, and says even the current police chief agrees that the OPP will provide a quality service to the town of Midland.
McKay says switching to the OPP will eventually save about a million dollars a year.
Most Midland officers will be offered positions with the OPP, and the transition should begin early in the new year.

The Chief of Midland Police posted an open letter thanking the council for their difficult decision and Midland residents and of course the fine men and woman at the MPS for all of their dedication and hard work. You can read his letter HERE.
